Fall 2009 trend report

Thierry Mugler, OZ magazine, Blek La Rat, Hussien Chayalan, Belstaff

Black is back, and so is Thierry Mugler! Not that this sultan of S & M inspired, PVC onsies ever left, but now thanks to Beyonce and fashion's love of the 80's, he triumphantly returns to fashion . This season black leather laces the runways, with motorcycle inspired themes. Take hints from the Belstaff collection and pair your shiny blacks with a hint of bright color.
If you, like me, have been enticed by the YSL cage shoe that seems to reside on every magazine and fashion blog page then take a trip to Opening Ceremony where master designer Hussein Chayalan's cooked up a beautiful tribute. The Chalayan cage heel hits the perfect notes with it's patent leather and light weigh wood heel.
The stylings of street artist Blek La Rat also resonate a gritty sentiment, that just feels right for fall. To see the artist and other well known international graffiti artist ( cough Banksy cough) check out the 'Whole in the Wall' exhibit at the Helenbeck museum. This two floor exhibit features street artist form the 1970 to present day. Along with unique street stylings you can find some amazing photographs of the artist at work.
